Windsor Bay Park
Little Forests Durham is pleased to announce a new and exciting partnership with the Town of Whitby, the local community and Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise, to plant a Miyawaki style Mini-Forest in south Whitby.
The 100 metre square site is located in the eastern corner of Windsor Bay Park next to Pringle Creek, 301 Front Street East, Whitby, ON, L1N 9S4.
Site preparation took place on Saturday July 6, 2026. Wetted cardboard, compost, and mulch were laid down by volunteers to prepare the site for the planting of 300 native trees and shrubs.
These materials were left to settle over the next few months for the grass and weeds to die back and to allow the cardboard, compost, and mulch to decompose, creating a nutrient-rich site for the tree planting event in the fall.
Tree planting is taking place on Saturday October 3, 2026 at 9am.
What will we be doing: We'll be planting about 300 native trees and shrubs in the 100 metre squared prepared site. Planting is the final step to establish a Miyawaki-style mini-forest on this site. With care and weeding over the next two to three years, this new mini-forest will thrive and increase local biodiversity!
This mini forest project is a collaboration between Little Forests Durham, the local community, Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise, and the Town of Whitby.
