Get ready to help prepare a mini forest site at Windsor Bay Park in Whitby – let’s make a Little Forest together!

Little Forests Durham is pleased to announce a new and exciting partnership with the Town of Whitby, the local community and Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise, to plant a Miyawaki style Mini-Forest in south Whitby!
Description: Join us for a fun day of site preparation at Windsor Bay Park in Whitby! Help get the mini-forest site ready by clearing out debris and making the area ready for planting. This is a great opportunity to get outdoors, connect with nature, and make a positive impact on the environment. No experience necessary, just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to get your hands dirty!
Date: Saturday, June 6, 2026
Location: 301 Front Street East, Whitby, ON, L1N 9S4
Time: 9 am
What will we be doing:
We’ll be laying down cardboard, compost, and mulch to prepare the 100 metre squared site for the eventual planting of native trees and shrubs later in the fall. These materials will be left to settle over the next few months for the grass and weeds to die back and to allow the cardboard, compost, and mulch to decompose, creating a nutrient-rich site for the tree planting event in the fall.
No experience necessary and all ages are welcome!
Note: This is a physical activity that may require lifting materials up to 10kg – please be aware of your limitations.
Shovels and light refreshments will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you’d like.
